I try to understand the reason why the show becomes so popular that even Barack Obama watches it. The story is simple (and I have to say sometimes it's so cliché), but it is positive. A group of loser kids stand on the stage and express themselves no matter how others see them, and the message "Don't Stop Believing" is as loud as the music. The music and choreography are fantastic. The cast cover not only musical classics but also popular pieces like "Poker Face," and their performances are actually very good; many of them actually performed on Broadway. Also, sometimes I feel that the appearance of guest stars like Kristin Chenoweth (April), Jonathan Groff (Jesse), or Olivia Newton-John (herself) are the reasons why people watch the show. I myself are really looking forward of the appearance of Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, and more of Gwyneth Paltrow.
One of my favorite moment in season 1 is Chris Colfer singing "Rose's Turn", which is from the musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable by Jule Styne. Chris Colfer plays the gay kid who has a high vocal range and gets bullied a lot because of his designer clothes. The following is he singing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.
And Jane Lynch plays the evil head coach, Sue Sylvester, whose ultimate goal is to destroy glee club and only shows her kindness when visiting her sister with Down Syndrome. I love the actor but, well, the evilness of her character just annoys me. Sometimes, I also can not help but find Rachel (Lea Michele) irritating, but she is still an interesting character, though. Her voice is excellent, but I just love Kurt better.
