2010 woman film festival

El último verano de la Boyita (2009) aka, The Last Summer of La Boyita
The film deals with a complex gender issue with a little girl, Jorelina's point of view. The scenery is so beautiful and poetic, and a little bit gloomy. The boy Mario never smiles. "What's wrong with me?" as he says in the film. It is the voices of those who can not fit into the social norms and who don't feel the sense of belonging in the society.

So what is normal, and what is not normal? What I see in this film is how cruelly the society treat those who are just different, who can not be labeled and do not want to be labeled.

The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls (2009)
It is always hard to find the images of minor groups in mess media, especially positive, non-stereotyped images. Jools Topp and Lynda Topp are two lesbian twin sisters who succeed to stand up on the stages and become popular within their own country New Zealand and even around the western world. In addition to their humorous performances and country music, they also participate in activities regarding environment or human rights issues. The film uses a series of songs performed by the sisters in one night to introduce different stages of their lives, from farmer's daughters to popular singers, from the southern to the western world, and from falling in love to fighting with cancer. Each song is a story, and the whole performance just goes so smoothly with their stories. It's a biopic quite successful which I enjoy very much.
